Academy Awards Countdown

01 Week 06 Days

I’ve made it my mission to watch all the films nominated for best picture before the awards in March.

If you’re not already aware these are:

  • American Hustle
  • Captain Phillips
  • Dallas Buyers Club
  • Gravity
  • Her
  • Nebraska
  • Philomena
  • 12 Years a Slave
  • The Wolf of Wall Street

I’m already quite far behind having only seen Dallas Buyers Club, The Wolf of Wall Street and Nebraska. Although I’m seeing Gravity tonight and American Hustle tomorrow night.

The reason I’m doing this is because I’ve never been in a position where I’ve seen all the nominated films for “Best Picture” at the Oscars, I’d like to see what are arguably some of the best films of the past year before the awards are given.

  1. I’ve been a huge Oscar fan for ages already but only recently it’s been possible to see all of the nominees. I have only American Hustle to see and that one I’ll be seeing this Thursday. Can’t wait. What’s your favourite at the moment?

    1. Hmmm, that’s a good question! I really enjoyed “Her”, I thought it was incredibly original and thoughtful. However, I have really liked all the ones I’ve seen so far.
I think “American Hustle” is my least favourite out of the ones I’ve seen but let me know what you think of it!
I’ve still got 12 years a Slave to see which i’m hopefully seeing Friday.

  2. … A bit late to be jumping on the bandwagon with this, but great idea! I’ve only seen The Wolf of Wall Street so I’ll try to catch-up in time.
    Well played, Steele, good post!

  3. Great Idea – Should definitely watch all of them. They are all special and amazing in their own way. 12 years a slave deserved best film, and the acting deserved awards also. And American Hustle followed quickly behind. Good luck and have fun.
